The Sea Cadet Corp

Added - 13th June 2008

The Sea Cadets is a nationwide voluntary youth organisation, open to young people aged 12 to 18 and Marine Cadets aged 13 to 18 both run by enthusiastic adult volunteers. The Corps today although supported and with links to the Royal Navy it is not a pre-service organisation. The training programme the cadets undertake, whilst underpinned by seamanship, discipline and team work, also offers recognised qualifications in subjects such as electrical/mechanical engineering, communications and catering as well as a vast array of boat work based qualifications.

The aim of the Sea Cadet Corps is to help young people towards responsible adulthood by encouraging valuable personal attributes and high standards of conduct. Through adventurous activities cadets become self reliant, and through team work cadets develop consideration and respect for others. The Corps encourages high personal standards and a sense of purpose.

As well as all this it is quite simply about meeting new friends and having a good time!
